one minute of silence.

death toll for sichuan earthquake: approx 50 000
death toll for myanmar cyclone: approx 100 000

to us, these may be just numbers & statistics.
but to those affected it represents the loss of numerous loved ones.

i watched the news yesterday & saw something that really touched my heart.
a 19-yr-old girl was trapped under some debris & many people tried to help her in one way or another; be it just staying there beside her or reassuring her that they wld get her out safely.
what's more, it happened to be her 20th bdae that day.
after a few hours, when they finally got her out, they put her on a stretcher & sang her a birthday song.
i'm not sure why, but i was so touched i started crying.
maybe it was the way they sang the song, or the smiles on their faces, or the fact that even in the midst of all that chaos, people are kind enough to care about others.
and i suddenly realised that the world might be just the way i hoped it would be after all; full of love, kindness & people who care.

this was what the people saw in the sky just 10 mins b4 the earthquake. it's really sad to know that 10 mins later, these people would never have the chance to gaze at the sky again.

isn't it kind of ironic? that something so beautiful was actually a sign that something really terrible was about to happen.
