The One About Resilience.
there was a
cockroach on the canteen floor today and i totally knelt on the bench and refused to come down until one the boys murdered it hahaha :D
very un-teacherish but whatever.
had to teach the kids (a p6 class) bout
resilience today for pastoral care.
i had them tell me their stories, which somehow included gate-climbing (which i discouraged although i am very guity of it too..),
and i asked them if they've decided which secondary school they wanted to go to.
most of them had already decided and some had even decided on their jcs as well!
being the nice and responsible teacher i am(:D), i decided to motivate them since they're having their PSLE this year.
so i told them a story:
[this is the gist of it]
"once upon a time, there was a girl called
Miss Ng, who went to Keming Pri Sch and worked
REALLY hard for her PSLE and she managed to get into the secondary school of her choice which was RV. In RV, she worked
REALLY hard for her O levels as well and she managed to get into HwaChong Institution. However, in HCI, Miss Ng became a very naughty girl who did not listen in class/do her homework/study for tests/etc. and her results slip looked like this:"
and i wrote this on the board:

and they started asking,
"miss ng,
S stands for
Suck is it??"
"does
U stand for
U Fail?!"
"ORH!
U stands for
U Suck! HAHAHA"
damn funny haha. so i explained what S and U stood for and they were like "WAH..you very lousy leh." :(
and then i continued with my story:
"so miss ng did very badly and in J2, she told herself that she had to study harder or she would not be able to get into any universities. so miss ng worked
REALLY REALLY hard for her A levels (okay this is bullshit and i exaggerated shamelessly here. but it was necessary for the story to be educational :D) and this was what she finally got."

and they were like,
"WOAHHH!" and started applauding.
so i pointed to the board and said," So what does this show??"
and most of them said things like, "We should have resilience/ never give up/ work hard towards our goals/ etc." which was exactly what i wanted them to learn.
and one cheeky boy pointed to my results on the board and said,
"Miss Ng, this shows that you're still bad at chemistry!"
ARGH KIDS!! HAHAHAHA :D
